Panama Canal and New Hampshire.

It's official the enlarged, deepened Panama Canal is now open for business!
Spent some time reading today in the Journal of Commerce about this new means of transportation and commerce.

I've said it before I still believe this canal will have a positive effect upon New Hampshire. It won't be immediate but it will change the shape of commerce and markets on the U.S. east coast which by default, has to be good for New Hampshire.

Some of the industry watchers and analysts are saying that the "downturn in China" coupled with the Brexnit vote will have negative consequences on global based commerce and this alone will negate the Panama Canal.

Time will tell.

NH Biomass Apathy

 Apathy kills things faster than the politicians in Concord.   And a killing time is coming. The fate of the New Hampshire biomass industry will be decided on September 13th which is veto override day at the Statehouse.   Some things will happen before then. New Hampshire has two advocacy groups dedicated to forestry and biomass energy production. The New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association and the NH Wood Harvesting Council both have a long-term lobbying presence in Concord. But neither are doing enough statewide outreach especially as $100 million dollars, good jobs and an entire way of life that sits in the crosshairs. Apathy Kills Things. Chris Sununu of Senate Bill 365 means the closure of six biomass energy plants, mass layoffs and some towns will lose as much as 27% of their total property taxbase. An Industrial Genius

Have not posted in some time. I've been waiting for the NH Insider situation to "play out" and it has. No activity. So at this point I'm thinking about striking out on my own once again. As I really did miss blogging. In the meantime, right now I'm reading Industrial Genius: The Working Life of Charles Michael Schwab. It's by Kenneth Warren. Basically, with a short few words it's about the rise and eventual fall of The CEO of Bethlehem Steel and the steel geopolitics around this. It's more academician than business, more survey than history and there could be a lot more depth here. But this is it!!!
